Part of the Belledonne mountain range faces the Alpe d’Huez mountainside where the Megavalanche comes down. With less snow than usual for this time of year and temperatures up in the mid 20′s I set out from Bourg d’Oisans to tackle a new MTB route. The ride starts with a 10km flat valley off road section before climbing up out of Allemont to a top height of 1500m. After much head scratching and map reading I found the little switchback trail that drops all the way down back to Allemont. Great new trail found and one we will be using in the summer for our guests. The Cotic BeFe handled the climb and the descent perfectly.

I am always on the look out for different equipment and bikes – one of the reason I set up PROMPT.CC here in Bourg d’Oisans. While in Australia my bro took me in the local Crumpler shop in Melbourne. They do every kind of bag imaginable including some nifty hydration bags. I picked up one for about 100 AUD.

Over the last season or so a lot of the french mtb ers in the area have also been riding in Urge Helmets. They are slightly different to your usual helmets in style but i love them. I have bought a black one for the 2011 season.

Its christmas time so we thought we would offer some special offers for the start of 2011. To receive the discount you must book your accommodation before the Megavalanche entries go online on the 10th January at ActiveSports.
OPTION 1: Catered Chalet FIVE PERCENT DISCOUNT
Five percent discount on our chalet in the old part of town. You can choose from just a bed and breakfast basis or stay half board. The chalet is at the bottom of one of the downhill runs through town so is in the perfect position for you to literally ride straight into the chalet at the end of the day. Your 5 % discount will be added manually by us once you have made your booking.
OPTION 2: Flexible Stay Hotel Accommodation with secure bike storage. SEVEN PERCENT DISCOUNT
7% discount on our flexible stay hotel The Vallee Blanche in Alpe d’Huez. The staff at the hotel will be looking after you for a minimum stay of 3 nights on either a bed and breakfast or half board basis. Your 7% discount is on top of anything you receive on the website at time of booking but will be taken from the full price amount.
We can offer this low price because
- We are not going to be placing any of our staff in the hotel. Don’t worry though this is the second year that we have used this hotel so the hotel staff no all the ins and outs.
- We live here year round so have no travel costs ourselves
- We also use this hotel and others owned by the same company for other cycling events in the area (for example we are official partners for La Marmotte Cycling Sportive the week before that has over 7000 people taking part, the L’Etape du Tour Act 1 the day after the Megavalanche the Alpe d’Huez Triathlon and the Tour de France 2011) during the year so we can get better rates on the rooms than other tour operators who come in for just the week.
- We have set up a dedicated website to handle these bookings called http://www.polkadotstop.com Everything from paying your deposit and balance to getting directions is available online thus keeping the price you pay to a minimum. Obviously if you want you can give us a call as we run both companies.
- The hotel have also offered us a discount incentive for groups over 10 or for 7 day stays. We are passing this discount straight onto you the customer !
You can book option 2 directly online by clicking here >> Your respective discount will be taken from your balance manually by us once you have paid your deposit.
Both accommodation options are near the main signing on area in the old part of town in Alpe d’Huez near the expo area and all the bars, clubs and cafes. Please remember that once the Megavalanche entries are open we will not be offering these discounts.
