The organisers of the Megavalanche (or is it Mega Avalanche ? – i wish the organisers would decide on how they are going to spell it !) have announced the dates for the 2011 event. It will run over the weekend of 8-10th July 2011. For the 2011 event we have our main mountain chalet in Alpe d’Huez on a bed and breakfast or half board basis.  We are also providing flexible stay hotel accommodation (for those wanting to do their own thing) up in the centre of Alpe d’Huez at the Vallee Blanche   .

Cotic BeFe Frame

11/09/2010

Well my Commencal Meta 666 finally died a couple of weeks a go with a big crack in the Headtube / Tobtube join. Have to say I was rather disappointed with Commencals warrantly – basically nothing after 2 years. This meant my long stay with Commencal frames has come to an end. Instead I bought myself a COTIC BeFe frame which comes with a better warranty. Not been able to ride it yet as on swapping the brakes over found the avid piston has a great big crack in it ! Just waiting on good old CRC to send me some new brakes out. It should gets its first proper 1500m vertical descent ride the week after next ! Not sure if I will be doing the Megavalanche or Mountain of Hell on it in 2011 though.

Megavalanche 2010 guest photos

7/07/2010

This year we have had one set of guests based in Bourg d’Oisans for the Megavalanche. We have been uplifting them in our minibus to right outside the main DMC lift as well as helping them get their entries sorted. Phil went out with them and showed them the qualifier and race course over a couple of days as well as the super sweet descent back to Bourg d’Oisans in the evening.

As well as our guests in Bourg d’Oisans we have been operating a catered chalet in Alpe d’Huez and hotel space at the Vallee Blanche (considerably cheaper than other tour operators we could mention !!)

Skiing the Megavalanche Race

15/04/2010

I have learnt to Ski this year and finally felt confident enough to attempt the black run down the Col de Sarenne – (better known to mountain bikers as the Megavalanche Start. Having raced the megavalanche on numerous occasions as well as taking our guest up there to attempt it during August I knew what to expect !
